This year summer vacation and my husbands two week business trip happened simultaneously. It has been a little overwhelming. It's a good thing I wasn't tending my grandson because I am not sure how that would have worked out!
Beginning from the moment their little feet hit the floor my children started in with, "I'm bored." Then came arguing until they agreed on an activity which, of course, lasted only a few minutes until they got bored and started the cycle all over again. We did make it through the first week but not until I witnessed a mess in the kitchen that resembled an explosion, finding out there is nothing to make dinner with because all the food has been eaten ( this possibly happened because I'm not used to them being home and I under-calculated how much food we would need or they actually ate it all just because they could?) This caused me to have to grocery shop during dinnertime with hungry children asking for everything they saw ( we ended up grabbing fast-food because they were "starving"). I also ended up with no clothes for one of them ( how was I supposed to know, and I quote, " I wear more outfits when I am home becasue I have the freedom to do that." The final topper was a lacerated cornea executed by an overzealous 3 year-old with a Nerf gun. The cornea belongs to his 9 year old sister, Sarah, who is now the sad wearer of an eye-patch that needs to changed 3 times a day after her eye has been anointed with antibiotic. She is always lively about everything and it has not been different with this either. She wondered if we could get her a camouflage patch or a pirate patch. Maybe a Littlest Pet Shop or Powerpuff Girls one. I mean, if she has to wear it that many and for that long (15 patches-she did the math ) then it should be stylish and show her personality right? Well, like I said, I made it through week one and even got the kids to another state during the weekend so they could get enough of their dad to last until the next weekend comes. I wonder what will happen in the meantime?
